Rebel senator Averil Power’s bombshell departure from Fianna Fáil descended into a he said/she said row as the party leadership moved to try and discredit her.

In a frantic bid to contain the impact of the Dublin senator’s stinging farewell attack on Micheál Martin, Fianna Fáil chiefs attempted to portray Ms Power as motivated by political ambition.
