Teenager’s leg ‘almost hanging off’ after Limerick shooting
The boy, 17, was with two others in a green area, near Carey’s Rd, when one produced a shotgun and opened fire.
Although badly wounded, the teenager managed to make his way onto the roadway and a passerby raised the alarm.
The shooting happened at around 10.30am. Gardaí from nearby Roxboro station were at the scene moments.
As they tended to the wounded youth before an ambulance arrived, the boy’s mother came on the scene and comforted her son before he was taken to University Hospital Limerick. He was treated for a serious wound to the leg. Gardaí said a youth was seen running from the area after the shooting holding a shotgun.
A witness said the victim’s mother was “with him and trying to console him and it was obvious that his leg was almost hanging off by the skin. It was a terrible sight. I don’t know how she coped with the situation. There was blood all over the road and he was screaming in pain.”
The three teenagers at the scene were known to each other and the wounded youth is related to people who have been involved in serious crime.
It is believed gardaí have a good description of the youth seen running from the scene and the other boy present.
