‘Quiet Man’ cottage to be protected structure

The stone homestead, at Tiernakill South in Maam, Connemara, which has been derelict since the 1980s, was central to the 1952 John Ford production starring John Wayne, Maureen O’Hara, and Barry Fitzgerald.
The scene in which Wayne kisses O’Hara at the door of the cottage is one of the most renowned in the history of film and regularly features in montages of great Hollywood scenes, including at the Oscars ceremony.
