The renowned cottage used in the film The Quiet Man is finally set to be declared a protected structure.

The stone homestead, at Tiernakill South in Maam, Connemara,which has been derelict since the 1980s, was central to the 1952 John Ford production starring John Wayne, Maureen O’Hara, and Barry Fitzgerald.

The scene in which Wayne kisses O’Hara at the door of the cottage is one of the most renowned in the history of film and regularly features in montages of great Hollywood scenes, including at the Oscars ceremony.
