Man rugby tackled wife outside club, court hears

A woman was caught by the neck, turned upside down and spear-tackled head first into the ground by her husband outside a nightclub in Cork this week, it was claimed by a detective garda yesterday.

Daniel Spencer of Tír Cluain, Cloyne, Co Cork, was charged with assault causing harm to his wife Sarah Egan outside a nightclub at Hanover St shortly before 2am on Tuesday last.

Detective Garda Gordon Crowley said gardaí were opposed to bail being granted to Spencer as his wife was in fear of him approaching her.
