Man jailed for having porn images of children as young as three months

A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to three years in prison with the final 18 months suspended for having video and photographic images of children and babies, some as young as three months, engaging in explicit sexual activity with adults and other children.

Sean Stewart, from Drumaveg, Moycullen, Galway, pleaded guilty before Galway Circuit Criminal Court last week to a single charge of having images and movie files of children aged between three months and 17 years, posing naked or engaging in sexual activity, stored on his laptop, on his two mobile phones and on a USB memory stick at a house he was renting in Gort na Glaise, Sandy Road, Galway, on November 27, 2013, contrary to Section 6 (1) of the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act, 1988.

Detective Sgt James Tierney told the sentence hearing that he and Det Sgt Paul Johnston of the Garda Computer Crime Unit, based in Dublin, called to Stewart’s house and seized the laptop, his two mobile phones and the memory stick on November 27, 2013.
