Gardaí said they are investigating “all the circumstances” following the discovery of the man at the rear of a house on Francis St at around 2.30pm yesterday.

Gardaí said an ambulance was called but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is believed the house did not belong to the deceased.

Meanwhile, officers yesterday afternoon upgraded their investigation into the death of 20-year-old Silvestras Stoskus to murder following an autopsy at Naas General Hospital.

His body was found with what appeared to be head injuries in a field at Cornmucklagh, Broadford, Co Kildare, on Wednesday, some 10 days after he was last seen.

The direction of the garda investigation was awaiting the results of the autopsy, which confirmed he had been murdered.

Mr Stoskus did not have a criminal record, but was known to gardaí for suspected involvement in robberies, assaults, and drug offences. He was last seen at his home at Bun Daire, Kinnegad, Co Westmeath, on March 8 and his family reported him missing to gardaí on March 15.

His family were very concerned for his safety and an offer of €10,000 was made for news on his whereabouts.

Gardaí in Leixlip are appealing for anyone who may have seen or spoken to Mr Stoskus between March 8 and March 18 or who may have seen suspicious activity between those dates either at Bun Daire or Broadford, Co Kildare, to contact them on 01 6667800, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
