Cork family plead with dad to come home

The family of a man who has been missing since Monday has issued an emotional appeal for him to come home.

Cork family plead with dad to come home

Timmy Forde’s daughter, Elaine, 23, pleaded directly with her father, who has been struggling with depression since his mother, Julia, died last December, to contact a family member.

“Come home dad. We can all sit down and help each other out,” she said. “We understand that you have a sickness. There is nothing wrong with that. We can get you help. You are not on your own. We are all here to help.”

She was speaking as up to 100 volunteers were involved in searches along the River Blackwater in North Cork yesterday.

Mr Forde, 58, who farms in Glenville, was last seen leaving the family home at around 12.30pm on Monday.

He is 6ft tall, with grey hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a navy blue jacket, baggy denim jeans, and green wellington boots.

The father of three had an appointment at the Mercy University Hospital (MUH) at 2pm but never turned up.

His silver Opel Caddy van was found at a bridge over the Blackwater, between Castletownroche and Ballyhooley, at around 3pm.

The family are hopeful of a positive outcome because sniffer dogs picked up Mr Forde’s scent near the van, and tracked him walking away from the river — up the road towards a crossroads.

They said his mobile phone was still ringing until 2pm on Tuesday which meant it was not in water.

And a coast guard helicopter swept the river on Monday but found nothing.

Elaine said hundreds of volunteers were involved in searches being co-ordinated by gardaí yesterday of the area around where the van was found.

She also said her father had seemed more depressed in recent days, and, despite reassurances from his family, had also suffered from anxiety.
