Almost four decades after last hosting the event, Ennis, Co Clare, will finally get its chance to stage Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in 2016.

Each year for the past four years, Ennis has narrowly missed out on the opportunity to host the prestigious annual event, which attracts around 350,000 people and could be worth up to €40m to the local economy.

On Saturday, at a ceremony in Dublin, Ennis pipped Sligo and Drogheda to ensure the banner county stages the fleadh next year.
