Whistleblowers are still not protected in most EU institutions, more than a year after they were told they must introduce rules.

EU Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly said that only the European Commission and the Court of Auditors have devised the rules, and her office has done so in an effort to lead the way.

In the past, whistleblowers who exposed questionable practices with EU funds in the commission felt they were forced to leave when they suffered at the hands of senior staff.
