Rathmore ‘devastated’ over Cadbury job losses

The loss of up to 18 jobs in a factory which has been a mainstay of the economy in a Cork-Kerry border area for 67 years has been described as extremely disappointing.

The jobs are to go at the Cadbury chocolate crumb plant, in Rathmore, as part of a downsizing proposal by the parent Mondelez multinational for its Irish operations. In all, 222 jobs are to be cut at two plants in Dublin — Coolock and Tallaght — and in Rathmore.

However, the company has indicated it plans to stay in Ireland long-term, with a €12m investment in chocolate-making planned.
