Workload on rise for over half of Irish workers

Half of working adults in Ireland claim their workload has increased in the last 12 months and one in three admit they regularly suffer from work overload.

Workload on rise for over half of Irish workers

According to research conducted on behalf of Berocca, just over a third (36%) of workers say that low motivation negatively impacts their productivity and, on average, workers believe they use just 54% of their brain capacity in the workplace.

When it comes to reasons for low productivity, almost a third (31%) of women say their lack of energy hampers their work output compared with 18% of men.

As well as suffering from low energy levels, 51% of women say a messy work environment plays havoc with their productivity and 35% of all respondents say they often get distracted by their colleagues making them less productive.

The research also finds that our mood has a huge impact on how productive we are, with nine out of 10 saying they noticed a marked improvement in their efficiency when their mood improves.

Jim Lawless, who will speak at a Berocca Brain Boost Seminar in Dublin today, said: ā€œAs Ireland adjusts to the improving economy and increasing workloads, positivity and productivity are key. Mental agility is becoming increasingly important, too, as the pace of living and working continues to speed up. We’re expected to be switched on constantly and clearly we all need some help in trying to remain mentally agile and efficient.ā€

Mr Lawless delivers over 100 keynote presentations each year around the world. The Berocca Brain Boost Seminar is a free public event taking place at the Science Gallery from 6.30pm.
