The Department of Social Protection will “consider” calls to reform the controversial JobBridge scheme in a review later this year — but has failed to give a straight answer to key recommendations put forward by an independent report.

Tánaiste and Labour leader Joan Burton’s department took the stance as it appeared to tone down concerns over the policy raised in a detailed document by the National Youth Council of Ireland yesterday.

In a 120-page critique of the employment pathway system’s four-year history, the youth council said while there have been some positives, clear issues exist in how the scheme is run.
