Blood soaked body found in shower
It’s understood the man’s body was found soaked in blood in a shower in the bathroom in the house, on McDonagh Street, Nenagh, around 6pm.
An ambulance crew was dispatched to the house, but the man, aged 36, was pronounced dead at the scene by a local doctor.
The office of the State Pathologist has been informed and a preliminary examination of the body will take place at the scene before it is removed to University Hospital Limerick today for a full post mortem.
Elsewhere, in the early hours of yesterday, a woman died in a house fire in Tramore, Co Waterford.
She was named locally as Catherine Coughlan, aged in her 70s. A single woman, she had worked as a nurse in Waterford city for many years.
Gardaí do not believe the fire started in suspicious circumstances, but it caused major damage to the property, gutting the house and its contents.
The fire broke out shortly before 1am at the house on Priest’s Road, Tramore, and the alarm was raised by a member of the public.
Gardaí arrived within minutes and, with the assistance of a neighbour, managed to remove the woman, who was living alone in the house. Fire service personnel were there shortly afterwards and administered first aid until an ambulance crew brought her to University Hospital Waterford. However, attempts to resuscitate her failed.
