Gardaí are examining a possible drugs link after a pipe bomb was found outside a house in Cork yesterday —one of two pipe bomb incidents the Defence Forces dealt with in just 12-hours.

Both devices were viable and both had the potential to cause serious injury or death, bomb disposal experts said. Gardaí are conducting separate investigations into the incidents in Cork and Limerick.

A dozen homes were evacuated in the Killala Gardens area of Knocknaheeny on the northside of Cork City just after 8am when a woman found a suspect device in the front garden of her home.
