Greece’s new left-wing prime minister Alexis Tsipras has been vocal in his criticism of the holiday packages stating that the business model “largely alienates tourism from the local economy” by keeping visitors holed up in resorts and away from local businesses and attractions.

The new prime minister has also threatened to block further sales of state-owned properties for development as tourist resorts.
