Bank of Ireland has told 130 staff in its cheque clearing section that the operation is being outsourced following a strategic review.

The bank has agreed a new seven-year contract with BancTec which is based in Blanchardstown.

A spokeswoman for the bank said the decision was taken “in recognition of the ongoing reducing volumes of activity as cheque usage continues to decline as customers migrate to electronic payment platforms.”
