It is understood the front window of the TD’s office was broken and flammable material was thrown into the premises.
Early reports suggest the incident was a petrol bomb attack — though gardaí would not confirm this, they said they are treating it as a case of criminal damage.
The office, which was unoccupied during the incident, sustained smoke damage which gardaí described as “minimal”.
Ms Mulherin expressed relief that nobody was injured and said she will “await the outcome of the Garda investigation”.
The scene has been preserved pending a technical examination and CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.
Ms Mulherin faced criticism this week when she confirmed she made €2,000 worth of calls from Leinster House to Kenya between 2011 and 2013. She has denied the calls were personal.
