West Cork to learn from Clare’s tourism initiative

West Cork tourism businesses will be hoping to learn from the experiences of a group in Co Clare who secured an accolade of ‘best place to holiday’ in Ireland.

West Cork to learn from Clare’s tourism initiative

Members of Loop Head Tourism, headed by its chairman Cillian Murphy, are to meet with West Cork tourism businesses this Wednesday to discuss ways of enhancing visitor attractions.

The meeting, scheduled for The Maritime Hotel in Bantry at 8pm, will also be attended by Josephine O’Driscoll of Fáilte Ireland.

Tourism West Cork’s inaugural meeting in Skibbereen last October brought together over 120 people who shared ideas about promoting the region.

A new body was formed, made up of a wide range of tourism-related businesses and community groups.

“It was inspiring to see how committed people are to working together,” said Gráinne Dwyer who organised the meeting.

“There is so much great work going on at grassroots level. Still, there’s a lot we can learn from the collaborative way of working that’s been used on the Loop Head peninsula.”

Finbarr Harrington, chairman of Tourism West Cork’s steering group, said:

“When people work together they can achieve more, and attract more funding and support. Now we’re giving tourist-providers a chance to network and to learn from some of the most successful tourism projects working in Ireland today.”

Siobhán Burke of the Sheep’s Head and Bantry Tourism Co-operative has been successfully using a Loop Head-style collaborative tourism strategy over the last two years.

“The ‘Meet & Greet’ is a great opportunity for people to get together and benefit from shared experiences.”

Anyone planning to attend the meeting is asked to register in advance at www.Eventbrite.com
