A graveyard in Limerick has come up with a novel idea to sell plots — let members of the community secure a space via direct debit payments of €8 a week.

The scheme has proven popular in Kildimo, a village 13km west of Limerick City. So far, almost 70% of the spots have already been allocated to residents.

Kildimo Community Council decided to roll out the initiative as a way of paying for an extension to the local cemetery.
