The decision to impose a 50% registration fee increase for nurses from last Monday has been labelled as “appalling”.

In a strongly worded statement, consultant oncologist and senator John Crowne said the hike was a €150 tax imposed on nurses “simply for being nurses”.

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland, however, has defended the fee hike.
