Extra money for victims of domestic violence has been pledged by Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald.

As the Dáil debated the issue, Ms Fitzgerald said €230,000 would be moved from the dormant accounts distribution scheme to improve services.

Ms Fitzgerald expressed concern that a recent study found that more than 70% of people regarded domestic abuse as a “common problem” in Ireland.
