A video showing a 94-year-old woman being robbed has gone viral, as her granddaughter has pleaded for assistance in identifying the culprits.

Jillian Wadding posted the CCTV footage of the theft from her grandmother last Wednesday on Facebook, and the video has been shared nearly 10,000 times in the last six days on the social media site.

Stills from the video, showing the perpetrator and an alleged accomplice, were shared a further 569 times.

The incident took place in the Arundel Square area of Waterford on the morning of December 10. The footage shows the victim entering a premises followed by two women, one of whom stoops and takes an envelope, believed to contain money withdrawn from the post office, from the victim’s bag.

“She wasn’t hurt thank God, she’s very upset,” Ms Wadding posted on Facebook.

Dozens of people expressed their outrage at the theft on Ms Wadding’s Facebook page.

“It’s disgusting. Can’t believe it. What’s the world coming to?” one said.
