HSE to be quizzed on care homes

The head of the HSE has been called to appear before the Oireachtas Health Committee tomorrow as pressure mounts on the Government to establish a full inquiry into the abuse of residents in care homes.

HSE director general Tony O’Brien will be questioned about the organisation’s responsibility in the abuse scandal revealed by RTÉ and how it intends ensuring the safety of all care home residents across the state.

Committee chair Jerry Buttimer said: “As a committee, we were shocked at the appalling evidence of alleged abuse of residents at Áras Attracta uncovered by RTÉ Prime Time.
