Consumers are being urged to shop locally this christmas — it’s the best way to support the economy and the ‘home team’.

The Irish Small and Medium Enterprises Association (Isme) said every €10 spent locally on Irish products generates €24 of benefit to the local community.

Isme chief executive, Mark Fielding, said today, December 8, remained the traditional Irish start to the Christmas season, despite the imported “US gimmicks” of Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Small Shop Day.
