Toddler dies after truck hit buggy
A two-year girl was killed when her buggy was struck by a lorry as she and her mother crossed a busy road in Waterford City yesterday morning.
Daenerys Crosbie and her mother Carole Ann Crosbie, 30, were metres from their Montessori school when the accident occurred shortly after 10am.
They were crossing Manor Street, close to Eden nightclub, near the centre of the city when they were struck.
The toddler and her mother, believed to be from Co Wexford, were taken to University Hospital Waterford.
However, the child was pronounced dead a short time later. Her mother received minor injuries, but was suffering from shock. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 051-305300.
Meanwhile, in Tralee, Co Kerry, a woman, 60, died after she was struck by a car outside the Manor West Retail Park. The incident happened at around 6.30pm yesterday.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her body has been removed to Kerry General Hospital. The driver of the car was uninjured.
Gardaí closed off the scene to facilitate an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators and local diversions were in place.
