Many people who died by suicide in recent years had self-harmed previously but received no medical or psychiatric treatment afterwards.

At least 45% of those who took their own lives tried to harm themselves at least once in the past and half had done so on multiple occasions.

However, while 40% of them were treated as inpatients in psychiatric facilities after such an incident, another 40% received no treatment of any kind, shunning even their GP.
