Possible witnesses spark new appeal for missing teen

Ciara Breen, 17, was last seen at her home at Bachelors Walk, Dundalk, Co Louth, in the early hours of February 13, 1997. She has a slim build, with a sallow complexion, long dark hair and blue eyes.
When last seen she was wearing a black leather jacket, blue jeans, wine-coloured sweatshirt and a white T-shirt with an image of her own face on it. Ciara was also wearing a black leather wrist watch with a square face and green background.
On the evening of February 13, 1997, Ciara had been for dinner with her mother Bernadette at an Italian restaurant. Both went home afterwards and to bed. Bernadette woke during the night and when she checked on her daughter the teenager had gone.
Gardaí believe that she left through her bedroom window to meet somebody, as she did not take any money or clothes.
A local man was later questioned about her disappearance but never charged.
Gardaí in Dundalk, who yesterday issued an original photograph of Ciara and an age-progression photo illustrating what she may look like today, said that the two potential witnesses that had come forward and spoke to them in recent weeks have been “of great assistance”.
Investigating officers are appealing to anyone who may have information on Ciara’s disappearance or who may have seen her on the night or morning of her disappearance to contact Dundalk Garda Station on 042 9388400, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or any Garda station.
