New hepatitis group unlikely to receive HSE funding

A new hepatitis C support group set up after its predecessor had funding pulled for "inappropriate and extravagant" use of public money is unlikely to receive any funding from the HSE.

A HSE source told the Irish Examiner that while there have been “some discussions” with the Hepatitis C Anti-D support group, there was no commitment around future funding. Its forerunner, Positive Action, received €7.7m in State funding since its inception in 1994.

“There has been absolutely no commitment around funding, further meetings, or even recognition of the new group,” the source said.
