FF: Cut in 41% tax rate will benefit just one-in-six workers

Just one-in-six workers will benefit from changes to the marginal rate of tax being hinted at by the Government and low- and middle-income earners will be no better off at all, Fianna Fáil has warned.

The party’s finance spokesman Michael McGrath cited the Government’s own figures which showed a reduction in the 41% income tax rate, which kicks in at €32,800, would affect just 392,000 (18%) income earners.

Mr McGrath said there is no doubt that people in Ireland enter the marginal rate of tax at a relatively low level of income at €32,800.
