Man charged with armed raid

An armed raider demanded money from staff at a betting office and then turned on a customer but fled the scene empty-handed, a court heard.

Detective Garda David Hickey was outlining three charges faced by Warren McGrath, aged 18, from 13 Curraheen Lawn, Bishopstown, Cork.

Det Garda Hickey said on September 13, an armed raider at Ladbrokes on Barrett’s Lane, Bishopstown, demanded cash from staff. The raider made a similar demand of a customer.

It was alleged at Cork District Court McGrath fled the scene with nothing.

Judge Leo Malone refused bail and remanded the accused in custody until today to appear again at Cork District Court by video link from prison.
