Two arrested after man killed in house attack
The victims, both Latvian, were discovered inside a house on an estate on the outskirts of Tullow, Co Carlow, yesterday morning.
The deceased, Gints Intenbergs, 41, was found in the kitchen of a rented house in the Graigeowen estate. He had suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by members of the emergency services.
The second man, found in the living room, was taken by ambulance to St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny. His life is not considered to be in danger.
Two men were arrested in the early afternoon, one in Tullow and the other in Carlow town. The men, an Irishman, aged 50, and a Latvian, aged 30, were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Garda sources said “quite an amount of alcohol” was consumed at a party in the house on Monday. At some stage during the night, the assault took place. Gardaí are trying to establish when.
