Tax breaks for workers crossing over into the upper band have been signalled by ministers in next month’s budget.

Simon Harris, the junior finance minister, said any spare resources should be directed to raising the threshold.

“I think that the fact you have 52% on income of €32,700 is a very low rate relative as to other norms and if there is any room for flexibility it should be directed in that area,” Mr Harris told RTÉ.
