Taoiseach Enda Kenny has come under pressure to explain what he knew about health reforms which Government officials branded "unworkable" after a former junior health minister said he "dismissed" her concerns on the issue two years ago.

Roisín Shortall made the revelation as fallout from civil service briefing papers for incoming Health Minister Leo Varadkar continued to cause problems for the Government.

The former Labour minister’s intervention into the controversy followed warnings to Mr Varadkar that Dr Reilly’s reform plans were “unworkable”.
