LIMERICK WATER SHORTAGE: ‘I’m pregnant — I need to have clean water’

Mother-of-one Winnie is one of 2,500 residents in two Limerick estates who have been told by the HSE their tap water is not safe to drink, due to high levels of lead.

Irish Water say it will cost about €6m to replace lead pipes at the 750 houses in Ballynanty and Kileely which are affected. Work on uprooting and replacing lead pipes in Ballynanty will begin next month, and the work won’t start in Kileely until 2015.
