The 66-year-old British man who died when his 5.5m yacht capsized off the West Cork coast kept a holiday home and mooring in the wider Schull area.

It is understood that Douglas Perrin, along with his two crew members in their 60s and 70s, attempted to swim to shore as the boat drifted, but he could not make the distance.

It is not known why the boat capsized in Roaring Water Bay but local sailors believe the wind could have suddenly picked up speed. Officers from the Marine Casualty Investigation Board are due to examine the yacht today.
