Prince Harry invited to join fellow ginger nuts at redhead convention

Britain’s redheaded Prince Harry has been invited to join hundreds of fellow ginger nuts in Cork next week at a fun-filled festival.

The carrot-topped royal — who earlier this year was named the world’s sexiest ginger man in a poll by the British Heart Foundation — is top of the guest list at the Irish Red Head Convention in Crosshaven, Co Cork, which runs from August 22 to 24.

And festival organiser Joleen Cronin has promised to throw out the red carpet if the 29-year-old accepts her flattering invitation.

In her letter to Clarence House, flame-haired Joleen wrote: “We can assure you that there will never be a dull moment. As a fellow redhead you will be welcomed by the opportunity to partake in the annual carrot throwing championship, dabble in some ginger speed-dating and enjoy our night time antics throughout the village.

“You will of course be entitled to enter our redhead King and Queen competition, where two lucky people are crowned as the royalty of this year’s convention.”

While Joleen is still awaiting her reply from Clarence House, she said she expects around 500 redheads — including many from far-flung corners of the globe — to invade the picturesque village for the weekend.

Joleen and her equally ginger brother, Denis, hosted the first-ever festival back in 2010 as a “one-off bit of craic”.

But such was its success that it has quickly established itself as one of the most popular — and probably the quirkiest — event on the busy Irish festival circuit.

It also has a serious side, as organisers are dedicated to promoting and fundraising for the Irish Cancer Society, for which they have raised €15,000 to date.

Joleen said she’s pulled out all the stops to ensure this year’s event will be the best yet, with dozens of new light-hearted, ginger-themed competitions added to the weekend-long programme.
