MBNA yesterday announced 160 jobs could be lost by November with the closure of its call-centre and support operation in Carrick-on-Shannon.

Staff were called to a meeting to be informed of the news yesterday.

The financial services company said the proposal to close the centre, which supports its British credit card business, followed a comprehensive review of its customer contact centre operations in the Britain and Ireland.
