A bar has been criticised by a parents group after it told Leaving Cert students the pub would be serving alcohol on the morning they received their results.

Bar criticised over morning promotion of alcohol

The Bishopstown Bar has been accused of seeking publicity after it posted a message on Twitter yesterday morning.

The bar tweeted “Best of luck to all getting results. Remember we serve alcohol from 10.30am,” at 8.27am on the morning the results were released.

Don Meyers, president of the National Parents Council Post-Primary described the tweet as “disappointing”.

“I am disappointed that they are targeting this towards the students.

“It’s one thing to say their pub is open from 10.30 in the morning for all, but they are targeting it towards students,” he said.

The tweet also came in for criticism online. “That about sums up the greed of the drinks industry in Ireland. You’re obviously not a parent who’ll have to pick up the pieces tonite [sic]” one Twitter comment read.

Mr Meyers said he believed most students would not go to the pub that early on results day.

The tweet was later removed.
