The Government will fight the European Commission in the courts if it has to, over its investigation of a possible breach of state aid rules concerning Apple’s operation here.

Finance Minister Michael Noonan said that if it does end up in court, “we are talking about somewhere between three and five years” before the matter is resolved.

In response to a Dáil question from Fianna Fáil’s Dara Calleary on the commission’s investigation, Mr Noonan stated: “We understand that the Commission has a job to do in investigating potential state aid.
