One man and his bike: An amazing adventure from Sydney to Cork

Shane O’ Callaghan, like many other Irish people, emigrated to Australia over 3 years ago to find work. Now that he is finally on his way home, he has decided to make a return journey to remember.

One man and his bike: An amazing adventure from Sydney to Cork

Rather than making the 20,000km trip by plane like any other person, Shane is travelling from Sydney to Cork on his bike!

According to his Facebook page, Long Way to Cork, Shane is undertaking this immense journey to satisfy his sense of adventure and explore a world of uncertainty.

"There is something about letting life unfold right in front of your eyes while traversing across continents to get home to be with the family and friends, loved ones, that have put up with my passion for travel over the years."

Shane has another motive for this adventure. He intends to raise money for Cork ARC Cancer Support house as he and his family have been affected by the disease on more than one occasion.

"Each one of us have our unique experiences in life and it seems that this awful disease has popped up in my life far more then I would like. Unfortunately, it caught up with one of my best friends mother not long ago, which makes this very personal to me."

The vast route that he is choosing to cycle will take him through 18 different countries before arriving back in Cork.

He aims to finish his journey before the end of 2014.
