Cork’s county engineer says it’s very important that people report water mains breaks to Irish Water’s new complaints line as it will allow it and Cork County Council to co-ordinate both road and water pipe repairs.

David Keane made the comment at a meeting of the council’s western division in Clonakilty yesterday after a number of councillors complained that roads were being tarred and then dug up a few days later to repair water mains.

Cllr Christopher O’Sullivan (FF) maintained this was happening on a regular basis and that communications needed to be greatly improved between Irish Water and the local authority to save taxpayers’ money.
