PAC rejects Bailey request on du Plantier murder inquiry costs

The Public Accounts Committee has rejected a request by journalist Ian Bailey to investigate the costs associated with the Garda investigation into the murder of French film-maker Sophie Toscan du Plantier.

He claimed one of the reasons costs had mounted was that gardaí had been afforded “almost limitless overtime payments” in the murder investigation.

Mr Bailey — twice arrested and released without charge in the investigation — has claimed that between €40m and €50m of public money has been spent on the Garda inquiry.
