Sinn Féin want to overhaul system for choosing mayor
The party’s leader on Cork City Council, Cllr Chris O’Leary, called last night for the introduction of the d’Hondt system — named after the Belgian mathematician who devised it — which would see the mayoral chain and committee chairmanships allocated based on a councillors’ share of the vote.
His call came as Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil councillors began a round of meetings yesterday afternoon to pick over the local election results.
