US rape accused ordered to stay away from Irishwoman
Jason Lee, once a managing director at Goldman Sachs, was charged in East Hampton with the rape of a 20-year-old student who has since returned to Ireland.
Mr Lee was issued with the restraining order after a private investigator working on his behalf contacted the victim at her Irish home.
The Suffolk County District Attorney in Long Island applied for the order on May 9 after the private investigator approached the woman and showed her a photograph taken before the incident which they claimed showed injuries she allegedly suffered in the attack.
The temporary motion of protection orders Mr Lee to refrain from further contact with the alleged victim, including online contact and through third parties.
The investment banker is accused of raping the woman at a luxury holiday home he was renting in the Hamptons on August 17, a charge he denies.
The student, listed on court filings as ‘DD’, was in the US working for the summer on a J1 visa.
“This court order will provide a level of protection for the victim of this crime, now at home in her native Ireland, who feels that she has been harassed and intimidated by visitors in the employ of the defendant, Jason Lee,” said District Attorney Thomas Spota.
“This victim has told us she felt intimidated by the emissary sent to speak to her by the defendant, and that she feels she is being watched, increasing her fear and causing her great distress.”
