Get your teeth into Cork’s Midsummer Festival
This year’s festival, which runs from June 19-23, is focused on the county’s arts organisations and artists, according to its chairwoman, Jane Anne Rothwell.
The haunting highlight comes courtesy of the award-winning directing duo of Michael Barker-Caven and John O’Brien, who have reunited to transform the Everyman for a production of Der Vampyr. An extra-special, late-night performance will take place on the show’s opening night on June 21.

The organisers of the festival said the late-night excitement continues at Elizabeth Fort, which will host two new circus performances.
“Inferno from PassePartout Circus will set the Fort alight with a dazzling fire show combining circus skills, physical theatre and pyromania,” they said. “Fortissimo, a large-scale aerial dance and circus performance, will showcase the talents and skills of 14 performers from Cork Circus Factory.”
“It has been a very challenging year and the festival would simply not have survived without the enormous support of so many people,” Ms Rothwell said.
“These include our key funders, Cork City Council, The Arts Council and Fáilte Ireland; our wonderful colleagues in the Cork arts community and indeed the arts community nationally; and the backing of local businesses and audiences in Cork.”
