Man admits using force on hurler in attempted robbery

A man has admitted taking part in the attempted robbery of a bank in 2009 which involved using force on Kilkenny hurling All Ireland champion Adrian Ronan and his family.

Stephen Freeman, aged 27, of Ballcurris Gardens, Ballymun, admitted trying to steal cash with others from Bank of Ireland, Parliament St, Kilkenny on November 3, 2009. He also admitted using force on Adrian and Mary Ronan and their family in order to frighten them.

On the opening day of his trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, Freeman changed his plea to guilty after having initially denied the charge. He will be sentenced on July 4.
