Rain fails to dampen Taoiseach’s spirits

"The Kerrymen are down from the mountains" was the greeting from a smiling Taoiseach Enda Kenny for some life-long Fine Gael supporters who turned out yesterday to welcome him to Killarney.

“I made Fine Gael and I made you as well,’’ declared veteran party member Tom Randles, of Kilgarvan, to hearty laughter all round.

An hour late in arriving at the International Hotel, Mr Kenny was met by a small crowd before setting off on a street canvass with Fine Gael MEP Seán Kelly and local election candidates.
