‘Monster’ myth hide reality of sexist violence

THE husband of Irishwoman Jill Meagher, who was raped and murdered in Australia 18 months ago, has spoken out about how his wife’s death has taught him that most rapists aren’t monsters but ordinary men, products of a society where “ingrained sexism” and “entrenched masculinity” has taken hold.

There was a massive global outpouring of emotion following Jill’s death with up to 30,000 people marching down Sydney Rd in her memory three days after her body was found.
