Mid-ranking gardaí have called for a review of road fatalities to establish if there is a connection between a rise in deaths and cuts in the Garda traffic corps.

The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors said there appeared to be a “correlation” and urged the Interim Garda Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan to conduct an “in-depth study” into the matter.

Moving a motion at the AGSI annual conference for a review of deaths, Mayo delegate Gerard Flannery said the strength of the traffic corps had more than halved in recent years.
