Footballer catches flying chair in court

Garda O’Mahony had to grab the flying chair in courtroom 1, where he was attending in the course of his duties keeping order in the courthouse.

Jason Landy, aged 25, was sitting on one of three chairs in the custodial section of the court.

Garda David Noonan gave evidence of arresting Landy, of no fixed address, and charging him with entering Blackrock Hall pharmacy at Eden, Skehard Rd, as a trespasser on April 1, with intent to steal.

Judge Leo Malone remanded the accused in custody to appear by video link from prison today.

Landy stood and shouted “fuck you” and words to that effect at nobody in particular, before grabbing one of the chairs and hurling it through the air.

The chair went flying down the side of the room close to where Garda O’Mahony was standing. He put his hands up, blocking it and then grabbing it.

With the assistance of other gardaí, Landy was escorted back to the holding cells.
